[[]]

It really has been quite a week.

Firstly, I'm very glad that I managed to pass both my circuit balancing test and public road test on the first attempt. Though it might be kind of expected because I already have a civilian license, there are many things that can't be taken for granted. Putting in enough effort is still essential.

Met up with my SISPEC friends for lunch yesterday. I've got to say that it's a very enjoyable outing, especially so when I haven't met most of them for a long long time. Sharing experiences of what we had gone through after BSLC and reminiscing about the good old times. This probably is one of the few good things that National Service brings.

Many times, you'll only meet true and worthy friends when you have been through shit together.

Went to celebrate Cheng En's birthday after that. Lots of food and booze to go around. It seems like I've already attended quite a number of birthday celebrations this month. That has to be...the 4th for this month. Sometimes, it can get a little weird to see friends you've known since early teens hitting the age of 21. I mean, it's like you know them for almost a decade and didn't realise that time had actually flown by so quickly!

Finally got to catch The Da Vinci Code just now. I had been eagerly anticipating the movie ever since I heard of its production. Many critics have said it wasn't exactly a good movie, felt like everything was told in a rush and the cast lacked chemistry or whatever. Yeah, the pace of the movie did seem a little fast, but I still enjoyed the movie. I mean, when you read a book you'll tend to imagine of how the descriptions in words would be played in sound and images. The movie had certainly satisified my imaginery.

Hopefully, more novels can be turned into movies. Probably books like Angels and Demons, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and The Teeth of the Tiger etc.

Have been watching a Taiwanese idol drama, It Started With a Kiss, on Youtube recently too. It was recommended by my mei, Peishan, and admittedly, it's pretty good for an idol drama. I'm rarely a sucker for idol dramas, but this consists of a cast that really can act and the storyline is hilarious and touching at the same time. Not to mention that the OST of the show is pretty good too. Managed to check out the VCD and it costs close to $50. Testaments to its high ratings when it was shown in Taiwan.

Speaking of which, I'm gonna continue watching it now. The first half of episode 11 has loaded completely. Cyaz!

[[]]

It's been a long day filled with quite a few highlights.

Firstly, congrats to Barcelona on winning the Champions League this season. In fairness, I have to say that they were pretty marvellous even though Ronaldinho was a little bit off-colour and they fully deserve the victory.

And hopefully, those whinging Arsenal fans can stop complaining about Lehman's red card. Look, he knew what he was doing when he went into the challenge. It was a straight red, without a shadow of a doubt. You can argue till the cows come home that the referee should have played the advantage, but what makes you so bloody sure that your team can come back from a goal down, even with 11 men? I'm sure even Barcelona would have preferred to take the goal rather than play against a 10-man Arsenal.

I don't even see these Arsenal fans complain about Eboue's dive, which resulted in a goal from the freekick. Such hypocrisy.

Not to mention that my general impression of Thierry Henry. As wonderful a player he is, he should be more gracious in defeat. Just admit the fact that you had 2 fantastic chances to win the game for your team, and you didn't. A man is not measured by how many victories he achieves, but how gracious is he in accepting defeat.

Went to SAFTI Physio for perhaps the last time. And it wasn't a bad last trip. Was attended to by an attachment physiotherapy student from Nanyang Poly, and she is kinda cute. Maybe if I had asked for her number......

The Da Vinci Code finally opens in cinemas today. Been waiting so long for the movie to be released, and I hope to find enough time over the weekend to catch it. Saw some news report on TV that Catholics in some countries had taken to the streets to protest the screening of the movie. I'm not against any religion or race, but if they don't want to watch it, just don't go!!

I mean, it sort of shows how much faith they have in their own religion. And trying to insult a general audience's ability to distinguish between fact and fiction. Who is to say that everything written in the Bible is true anyway? Isn't it, afterall, a book written by man for men?

Besides, I have this belief that because of the novel, a lot of people began looking up on the topic and have a better understanding of the religion. I, for one, am one of them.

Humans should just learn to be more tolerant. It's a shame that wars are usually fought due to intolerance of others' religous beliefs or race.

I think I shouldn't go any further on this topic. In case I get censored or locked up or anything. Very typical Singaporean huh?

Been listening to Corrine May's songs. Nice lyrics and very easy listening. Would probably check out her album when my finances are more on the up.

[[HSP Cleared!!]]

Managed to clear my HSP (Highway Situational Problems) test today. It's 1 of the 2 theory tests the SAF makes their learner drivers/riders go through before their first circuit test attempt.

I waited for over 4 hours before it's my turn, and all it took was roughly 10 minutes for the tester to be convinced I deserve to pass. Have to admit that I'm quite lucky though.

Somehow, many just kinda freeze when it's their turn to present. At least I've been trained to make presentations for almost all of my years in poly. I'm pretty glad that part hasn't been wasted too much as of yet.

Gonna be a hectic few weeks ahead. Received a SMS from Peiwen just now informing about her birthday celebrations on 3 June. Wasn't too long ago when I attended a few. Not that I'm complaining though, because it's a great time to catch up with friends whom I won't be able to meet up nowadays.

Hmm...wondering what I should do on the day when I turn 21. Too poor to hold a party of any sorts. Oh yeah, I have to be duty clerk for that day! What the hell...oh well, hopefully everyone in the office scrams before 6pm that day.

It's kinda weird...this feeling I'm having...

[[A Mixed Vesak Weekend]]

As far as I can remember, I haven't had a long weekend whereby fortunes had been so mixed.

Was at Jurong East to meet up some friends for a soccer kickabout. We waited about half an hour before it was our turn to play, and once inside, the match hardly lasted even 10 minutes.

Nope, we didn't stop playing because we lost the challenge. A very unlucky Weihan tripped, slid forward and banged his head against the stony wall. From my position, I thought it was his leg which endured the impact, so you could imagine my horror when I went forward and saw blood smearing across the whole of his face.

As a precaution, we called for an ambulance. It was a pretty bad and deep cut, but we managed to stop the bleeding before professional help arrived. And a good thing it was only a cut, and his wound was closed with help from some surgery glue. His parents were, of course, visibly worried when they arrived, but I'm glad that there weren't really any complications and he remained very much okay despite losing so much blood.

In the evening, it was Fuhang's belated birthday celebration. It was great seeing some Nan Hua friends whom I don't see that often, and there's quite a lot of food too. It was a pity I couldn't join them in their late night activities as I have training today.

So sad right? Can't even get to have a proper long weekend. And it had to rain so heavily when we were allowed to leave.

FA Cup Final later on. Hoping for an upset, an West Ham victory. It looks pretty tough for them, but I don't see them rolling over against Liverpool. Come on, Hammers!!

[[Stitches Removed!!]]

Finally after more than 3 weeks, my stitches are removed!!

This time there ain't a need to put another 4 back. It looks very much healed, just that the affected area looks slightly pinkish. Definitely there's going to be quite a visible scar when the skin grows back.

Bumped into Jabin this afternoon at DTC and heard from him that he's going to start his driving course tomorrow. It's been quite surprising to meet poly friends and BMT mates at DTC, but at the same time, a comfortable feeling of seeing people you know there.

Friday is Vesak Day. So thankful for it. But there's training scheduled on Saturday. Hopefully I won't be called back for the training. It's such a sucker punch if a long weekend is disrupted by training on a Saturday when the day prior to it is a public holiday.

Gotta got more sleep tonight. Feeling so tired and sleepy lately, though I haven't really had any late nights or disturbed sleep. Sometimes I really wonder about the quality of my sleep.

Every day and every night, I pray for someone to save me and bring me back to reality...

[[Safe]]

So glad to say that I got through safely the first week of my bike course. I've already bettered my previous attempt by a single day!

Nothing much to be proud of but it's an achievement and improvement. Without a shadow of a doubt, I'm pretty sure everything will go smoothly and I will get the stupid riding permit from SAF on 2nd June.

And don't expect me to jump on the bandwagon and discuss politics here. I know Voting Day is tomorrow, but the only concern I have about the whole affair is it's a public holiday for me.

Why? Because I'm NOT eligible to vote yet, and even if I do, I won't get a chance. It's a bloody walkover.

Seriously, I do wonder if I'll ever get the chance to vote if I continue to reside within the GRC I am now in. Perhaps one day I have to move somewhere further in order to get a voting experience.

Heard some of the opposition's rally from the news bulletin saying that people should vote for them in order to maintain some sort of "alternative voice" in the government. Look, it's healthy to have some opposition in the parliament, and certainly much better than having a one-party government. But that's besides the point, because it's useless to vote have the opposition just for the sake of having them there.

You see the problem with the opposition? Seats in parliament are not god-sent. You work and contest for it. I like to see some competition, but not a pot calling kettle black slanging match in public. You accuse someone of intentionally magnifying your problems, yet you do the same to others.

Reminds me so much of the idiot Jose Mourinho.

Reality doesn't seem to be harsh. It IS harsh. So, either you shape up, or you get out. Simplistic.

Back to where I should be, I can't wait for the weeks to come by. We have the FA Cup Final, Champions League Final, and the World Cup! It's pure soccer extravaganza! There can't be a much period of the year as compared to this. I'm no Liverpool fan (I detest them, in fact), but its late manager, Bill Shankly, really put this into perspective:

"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed by that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

How very true these words are. Unless you are one of those who couldn't care much about it. I mean, which world did you come from?

It's so boring to blog on a Friday night. Friday nights should be much more interesting than this. But well, I just can't seem to find something more interesting and probably won't cost me more than a cent.

Hope to have a more enjoyable weekend. Really need to have some sort of recreation going before the boredom of life sucks away the whole of my soul.

Day by day, every little bit of that feeling starts to drift away...

[[Good Times, Bad Times]]

Just got back home after being away from home for almost 24 hours. It feels so great to have a cool shower after a very warm morning under the sun.

Was at Pasir Ris Costa Sands to attend Cheryl's 21st birthday celebrations. Really am thankful for the hospitality shown. There was certainly plenty of food and booze going around.

And not to mention to catch up with poly friends. Spent most of the time talking crap. Actually, all the crap is from Jethro. Hahaha...as usual. We guys do have lots to talk about everytime we meet up, and the subject of interest, more often than not, is about NS.

That's probably the one and only fantastic thing about NS, giving guys who had gone through, are going through or waiting to go through NS bucket-loads to discuss about. Like bitching about blur platoon mates or the super irritating RSM, the food served in the unit, working hours and so on.

After that, I was off to Jiantong's house at Jurong East to meet up with some of my secondary school buddies. Oh yeah, very appreciative of Bert's boyfriend, Han Song, for the ride. If not, it would have been another hell of a journey from the east back to the west side of the island.

And guess what we did the whole night? Yup, drinking again. Sometimes, I find it pretty hard to come to terms how often we guys have been drinking whenever we meet up. I certainly wouldn't have thought that would actually happen back when I was like 15 or 16. Jack Daniels, Chivas Regal...expensive liqour all around.

After Wei Han sent Shu Zhen home, 4 of us, Jiantong, Ken, Yukun and yours truly, went for supper. Went back after an unhealthy meal of deep fried chicken wings and french fries for more chit-chatting. There were so many things to reminisce about during our days in Nan Hua Secondary (which, well, is now known as Nan Hua High).

So many times in my life I wished I was back to those days. Though admittedly, my poly days were much more slack, I missed those younger adolescent years. It was back then when even though we had the occasional quarrels and fights, we had each other's backs at all times. When we always hang out in such a large group that we create a huge ruckus everywhere we went. When we would always stay back in school and played basketball till late. When we spend time at MacDonalds to revise for exams together.

Such good times...and they always seem to come and go by so quickly.
